Our aim is to inspire you. Each of us has a different way of working and point of view so we cannot and will not give you rules for making hooked rugs like ours. We approach our rugs as artists do: exploring colour, form, texture and design. People do not need something added to them to make them artists; instead, something must be brought out of them. We believe that ordinary life demands creative solutions to everyday problems and that making rag rugs is one expression of that creativity. Our work is exciting to us, and we want you to be excited about yours and find every step of the process interesting rather than focusing solely on the end result.

We will, of course, provide practical help. If you are a beginner, we will show you how to hook; if you are more experienced, we can show you how to use your fabrics more effectively. If you think that you are not an “artist” (and we have not trained as artists) because “you cannot draw or paint” remember that neither of these skills is necessary to make effective and satisfying rugs.

If you would like to see some of Louisa and Lewis’s rugs and read more about our work, please look around this website.
